Introduction to Housing Law

This course is for all Social Housing Officers. It's aim is to provide an overview of how the law is applied in social housing and show officers how their work affects other aspects of Housing Management and the benefits of a holistic approach to social housing management. A must for all new starters!

Disrepair - What it is, How to deal with it and How to prevent it!

Training that is designed to help you deal with claims for disrepair but also gives you guidance on how to prevent claims in the future.

Statutory Homelessness

Training that takes Officers through the statutory stages of homelessness considering not only the legislation but also the relevant guidance and multitude of case law in this area.

Such an important part of the homelessness process and can easily get missed as an administrative task.  This training shows Officers how to make them as effective as possible.

Relationship Breakdown from a Housing Perspective

Tenure can be seriously affected when a relationship breakdown, particularly if someone is a joint tenant.  The nature of the relationship ie married or living together, will dictate what action the parties can take and also identifies what they can't do.  This training dispells a lot of myths particularly around assignment of tenancy

Domestic Abuse Act 2021 and Social Housing

A must for anyone working within social housing both how it is accessed and how it is managed.  Can you identify the different types of and stages of abuse and do you know what you can do to tackle it?  

Care Act 2014 or Housing Act 1996 - Who's Responsible?

The title of this course speaks for itself.  The ongoing tussle for those trying to access accommodation and those currently in accommodation, who are struggling.  The outcome of this training is to make sure no one is set up to fail.

Children Act 1989 or Housing Act 1996 - Who's Responsible

It's imperative that young people, experiencing homelessness or at the risk of homelessness, aged between 16 and 24 are not set up to fail in terms of managing a home as it can affect their housing history for a long time.  This course looks at where responsibilities lie and how they should be applied.

Eligibility for Social Housing

We've had Brexit and the Settled/Pre-Settled issue that brings as well as withdrawal from Afghanistan in the last 12 months.  This shows how 'fluid' eligibility is and who it changes regularly.  This training endeavours to bring you up to speed with the current situation.

Section 202 Homeless Reviews

This course looks at common reasons for review requests and the pitfalls that can result in appeals in the County Court.  Having undertaken these reviews for many years, I share my experiences and knowledge to help you make effective decisions that you are happy to defend if challenged in the Court.

Allocation of Social Housing

This course looks at what should be included within a Local Housing Authority's Allocation Policy and why we have them; where homelessness sits within Policies and the role of Nomination Agreements.

Tenure

What type of tenancy you sign up your tenants too can affect how you manage them within that tenancy.  This course takes you through the minefield of tenure that currently exists in social housing

Section 20 Consultation - Leasehold

This course takes you through the legal process as well as identifying common pitfalls and issues including the role of insurance and permissions to improve.

Tenancy Management - Rights and Responsibilities

Does what it stays on the tin, as they say.  A must for all Housing Managers and anyone working within Social Housing

Tenancy Enforcement and Anti-Social Behaviour

This course considers what tools are available to Officers to enforce the requirements of the Tenancy Agreement and what constitutes ASB.  It also looks at how social landlords weigh up the human rights of individuals and your responsibility to the community.

Possession Proceedings in the County Court

This course focuses on the evidence required to prove breaches of tenancy, and what is needed to show a Judge that it is reasonable to grant a Possession Order.  

The course can be adapted to just be for the recovery of rent and for general possession actions
